Dorothy Powell Gammon

Ruffin– Dorothy Powell Gammon, 86, of 351 Schoolfield Road, passed away on Wednesday October 10, 2012 at Morehead Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Happy Home Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Bruce McBride officiating. The family will see friends at the church on hour prior to the service and will receive friends other times at the home. Mrs. Gammon was born in Rockingham County to the late Andrew Lawson Powell and Lelia Bell Evans Powell. She was a retiree of Burlington Industries with over 20 years of service. She was a member of Happy Home Congregational church where she taught Sunday school. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Eldridge Gammon, Sr.; sons, Claude Eldridge Gammon, Jr., David Andrew Gammon and Ted Michael Gammon, sisters, Patsy Wilson, Lizora Harbour and brother, Kelly Powell. Survivors include her daughters, Diane Faye Hooker and husband, Irvin and Susan Kelly Gammon Thurman ; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; sister, Norma Burks.
