Dougald was born in Harnett County and was the son of the late Leonidas “Lonnie” and Carrie Butler Patterson. He worked as a barber for many years and later was very proud to serve as a Nursing Assistant for Annie Penn Hospital. Dougald found his new home in Reidsville 35 years ago where he discovered a new life of sobriety. He lived to help men and women break the chains of addiction. Dougald was recognized by AA for his diligence and commitment to helping others. His servant spirit was evident in every aspect of his life. Dougald always enjoyed sharing his love for travel with Wallace Anne including 49 states, 9 trips to Canada and 3 trips to Alaska. They would have gone to Hawaii but there wasn’t a bridge. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife Wallace Anne Waynick Patterson; siblings Roderick “Ock” Patterson, Duncan Patterson, Foster Patterson, Archie Patterson, L.C. Patterson, Parker Patterson, J.D. Patterson, Infant brother, and Lena Hughes.
He is survived by his children Mary Jo Nee and husband Kerry, Kim Sharpe and husband Kelvin, and April Flynn and husband David; grandchildren Lauren Furmage and husband Marcus, Patrick Numerick, Zoe Sharpe, Ava Sharpe, Erik Sharpe, Morgan Baird and husband Chris, Taylor Hockenberry and husband Coda, and Carleigh Wade and husband John David; great grandchildren Cole, Kieran, Ainsley, Wrenn, and Koe; sisters Jennie Holland and husband Johnny, and Margaret Butler and husband Charlie; brothers Nash Patterson and wife Marie, and Clyde Patterson and Christine Jones; a large extended family; his AA family and friends all over the world!
