Douglas Wainwright Ross, 82, went home to be with The Lord Friday, January 17, 2025, at Brookdale of Reidsville.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, January 22, 2025, at New Lebanon Church with Pastor Jaret McBryde and Dr. Mark Harris officiating. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at his residence in Bethany.
Doug was born in Rockingham County to the late John and Lucy Moore Ross. He was a longtime and faithful member of New Lebanon Church where he served as a deacon, trustee and Sunday school teacher over the years. Because of his devout faith, Doug was a member of the Gideon Reidsville Camp for many years. He retired from Cone Mills with over 35 years of service. During his career he served as plant superintendent and plant manager at various locations. He was an avid gardener and was known for his delicious strawberries. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and spiritual leader of his family. Being a man of few words, Doug lived his life with integrity and truth. Along with his parents, Doug is preceded in death by his wife Sylvia Jean Ross; brothers Billy Ross and Howard Kirkpatrick.
Doug is survived by his sons Todd Ross and wife Tabatha, Terry Ross and wife Regina, and Tony Ross and wife Christie; grandchildren Kaitlyn Alexander and husband Corey, Jacob Ross, Evan Webb and wife Madison, Camden Ross, Savannah Ross, Brady Ross, and Owen Ross; great grandchildren Harper, and River; brothers, Thomas Ross and wife, Virgie, Johnny Ross, Wilson Ross, Guy Ross and wife, Dell; sisters, Betty Jean Myers and Rachel Archer and husband, Jerry; sisters-in-law Maddie Kirkpatrick and Alice Mason; numerous nieces and nephews; and a large extended family.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the special and heartfelt care for Doug especially by Michelle Echols and all of the staff at Brookdale of Reidsville.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association - Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209 in Doug’s honor.
