Douglas Garland Sides, 71, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2025.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, at Wilkerson Funeral Home, with Pastor Howard Sides officiating. Burial will follow at Bethany Community Church Cemetery with military honors performed by the Rockingham County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the funeral home, beginning at 12:00 noon.

Doug was born on July 2, 1953, to the late William and Edith Neese Sides. He was very athletic growing up—he ran track and was also a pole vaulter. During his service with the United States Navy, he was a boxer, boasting a record of 67 knockouts and 0 losses. He was also an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing and traveling with his late wife, Paula. In his later years, Doug fulfilled a lifelong dream of owning a slot car track and hobby shop.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Paula Sides, and his sister, Judith Sides Mendez.

He is survived by his son, Doug Sides, and Kristin of High Point; step-son, Travis Gavel of Stuart, FL; grandchildren, Ozzy “Zoey” Sides, Caley Ward and Dalton, and Logan Potts; great-grandchild, Colter Ward; brothers, Howard Sides and Linda of Franklinville, NC, Billy Sides and Jane of Reidsville, and James “Jimmy” Sides and Cathy of Hollister, NC; sisters, Marie Metcalf and Phil of Dudley, MA, Sarah Sides Reid of Eden, NC, and Anita Sides Greason of Asheboro, NC.
