Dr. Richard D. “Dick” Tally, 85, passed away Monday, February 20, 2017 at his residence surrounded by his family.
A memorial service will be held 2 PM Friday, February 24, 2017 at Wilkerson Funeral Home, 1909 Richardson Drive, Reidsville, NC with Mr. Jim Sink officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Dr. Tally was a native of Forsyth County and the son of the late Agnoo and Anna Devine Tally. He graduated from Mineral Springs High School, Class of 1950. Before college, he served in the US Navy from 1951-1954. On his return, Dick graduated from North Carolina State University and received his DVM from the University of Georgia. He was the founder, owner and operator of Friendly Animal Clinic in Greensboro. After his retirement, Dick discovered life beyond the clinic. He enjoyed yard work and especially loved golf. He was a member of the Bryan Park Senior Men’s group and formed many lasting relationships. Also, for 25 years, Dick and Barbara enjoyed their adventures with the Ocean Isle group. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Allene Sink and brother, “Buck” Tally.
Dr. Tally is survived by his wife, Barbara Tally of the home; daughter, Cynthia Rutledge (Mark) of Crestline, CA; son, Dave Tally (Brenda) of Tempe, AZ; step son; Jon Griffin (Julie) of Virginia; brothers, Gary Tally (Amy) of Ennice, NC and Tom Tally (Shirley) of Monroe, NC; special nephew, Shad Tally and wife, Tammy; “Papa” to Robert, Nevin, Neal and Meredith Meissner; sister-in-law, Peg Tally; and extended family.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the many years of care to Dr. Gus Magrinat and his staff at the Wesley Long Cancer Center.
