Dwight Lee Chaney, 78, of Reidsville, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, July 9, 2023, at the Gibson Hospice House.
Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Evergreen Memory Gardens with Rev. Randy Hester officiating. Graveside rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Fire and Rescue Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 11th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the home.
Dwight was born in Rockingham County to the late V.L. “Buster” Chaney and Cora Chaney. He served his country in the US Army and was a longtime member of Community Baptist Church where he was on the Trustee Board and involved in many other capacities. He retired from Terry Labonte Chevrolet as an Auto Technician and Wentworth Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Tobacco Farmer for many years and loved growing and sharing his garden each year with others. He was known as a “ jack of all trades”, having skills in electrical, plumbing, mechanical and construction. He enjoyed mowing his yard, dove hunting and fishing at Hyco Lake. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Franklin.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Smith Chaney; children, Keith Chaney and wife, Rona, Lisa C. Carter and husband, Chuck, Lori C. Knowles and husband, Chad and Kevin Chaney and wife, Ginger; grandchildren, Kristin Barber and husband, Greg, Jacob Chaney, Jake Carter, Brooke Carter, Brison Knowles, Wyatt Chaney, Erica Chaney and Claire Mattioli; great grandson, Lucas Barber; aunt, Roxie Robinett of Colorado; along with numerous cousins.
