Reidsville - Dwight Legrande Whitesell, 69, passed away Monday, May 11, 2015 at his home after a short battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, May 14, 2015 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ron Tuck officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens with military rites performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 13, from 6 - 8 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times at the home.
Dwight was born on January 29, 1946 in Guilford County to the late Vance “Happy” Whitesell and Mattie Chrismon Whitesell. He was a 1964 graduate of Northeast Guilford High School and served in the North Carolina National Guard as an SP5 during the Vietnam conflict. Dwight spent most his life in the tire business and in 1981 became owner/operator of Tire Sales and Service of Reidsville, Inc until he retired in 2006. He loved collecting antiques, old coins and had a passion for antique cars. He was one of the original seven founders of “EZ Street Cruisers” in January of 1998 after he hosted the first “cruise in” the fall of 1997. Dwight’s proudest accomplishments were his only child Heather and his only grandchild Michael. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Billy Whitesell and sister, Louise Whitesell Fogleman.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter Heather Whitesell Harris and husband, Todd; grandson Michael Harris; sisters, Margaret Clapp (Jerry), Debbie Gariglio(Vance); brothers, Mike Whitesell, Gary Whitesell and Johnny Whitesell (Phyllis); brother-in-law Dewey Fogleman and ex-wife and mother of Heather, Brenda Donnell Whitesell along with numerous nieces and nephews.
