Madison-Mr. Earl McCollum, 92, of 1581 Pannel Road, Madison, North Carolina died Friday, February 10th, 2012 at Hospice of Rockingham County.He was born in Charlotte, Mecklenburg County on August 28th, 1919. The adopted son of William Arthur and Sally Ladd McCollum, he served in the U. S. Army from 1944 to 1946. Returning home from the army, he returned to the farm with his father. Later he continued to farm with his son, Ronald until three years ago when he had shingles and was disabled and unable to continue. He was a member of Comer's Chapel Baptist Church, attending faithfully as long as his health permitted. He served as a deacon, teacher of the Men's Adult Sunday School Class for many years, later as a substitute. He sang in the church choir and also the men's choir. He was a kind, loving devoted husband to his children and grandchildren. He loved his many friends and his church.He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Ruth Wilson and husband Dewey; Mabel Wilson and husband Harvey; brothers, Whitt and wife Lena, Joe and wife Alma; Robert and wife Lucille. He is survived by his wife, Louise Dye McCollum of seventy-one years and eight months; son, Ronald McCollum and wife, Joann of Madison; daughter, Shearl Hardison and husband Clif of Williamston; four grandchildren, Ronald McCollum, Jr. and wife Sally of Raleigh; Megan McCollum of Madison; Kristi Hardison and Misti McCombs and husband Keith of Williamston, NC; one step-granddaughter, Amy Emerson and husband Paul Emerson and step greatgrandson, Brooks Emerson of Grimesland, NC.A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, February 13th, 2012 at 3:00 P. M. in Pleasantville Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, located at 150 Pleasantville Church Road, Madison, North Carolina 27025. Rev. David Hill will officiate with personal remarks by some of his dear friends and military rites at the conclusion of the service.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Home of Rockingham County, P. O. Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375 or to any stroke or heart related charity.The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8 P. M. at Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville and other times at the family home.
