She was the Senior Adult Program Director for the M-M Recreation Department until her retirement in 1994. She was active in civic and community affairs, formerly serving on the Madison- Mayodan School Board and the Salvation Army of Rockingham County. She also formerly represented Rockingham County on the Regional Mental Health Board of Centerpoint.
Mrs. Collins was especially proud of founding the first Senior Program for minorities in western Rockingham County. She also founded the first “Tri-High Y” program for high school girls in Madison-Mayodan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Collins Sr., parents, Charles Claude Case and Pearl Williams Case, all of Mayodan; brothers, James Daniel “J.D.” Case, Claude Earl Case Jr. and Levi “Buster” Case.
She is survived by her sons, James “Jim” Collins Jr. (Anne) of Winston-Salem, Mark Collins (Phyllis) of Reidsville, and Stephen L. Collins (Rachel) of Pilot Mountain, NC; brothers, Wayne Greer Case and Clyde Harvey Case; and sister, Sylvia C. Stepp.
Mrs. Collins loved and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Logan Collins Tice (Ryan) of Nashville, TN; Greer Collins Brown (Jenn) of Matthews, NC; Kellee McKinney Graves (Garland) of Timberlake, NC; and Huston Levi Rush Collins of Los Angeles, CA; in addition, her great grandchildren, Collin McKinney Graves of Houston, TX, Reece and Rhett Brown of Matthews, NC; and special friend, Mitzi A. Moore of Mayodan.
