Reidsville – Edith Leake Gentry, 89, of 1117 Larkwood Drive, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM Saturday, September 8, 2012 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Mr. Shannon Newsome officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home and the burial will follow in Greenview Cemetery. Mrs. Gentry was a native of Stokes County and the daughter of the late G.R. and Alma Smith Leake. She was a longtime and faithful member of Reidsville Christian Church and involved with Circle #2. She participated in the Rockingham County Home Demonstration Club, the Reidsville Woman’s Club, and the Gideons Auxiliary. She was retired from the Chinqua Penn Plantation as the Head Guide. Loving her family and enjoying her friends was her passion. She never met a stranger. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her children, Kenneth and Judy Gentry; sisters, Flora Gammons and Jessie Cox; brothers, Gene Leake and G.R. Leake, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Harold Gentry of the home; her daughter, Cindy Putnam and husband, Ren of Reidsville; son, Terry Gentry and wife, Diane of Boone, NC; grandchildren, Justyn Putnam and wife, Molly, John Mark Putnam and wife, Katie, Carol Shadrick and husband, Philip, and Holland Gentry; great grandchildren, Rebekah Putnam, Sabrina Shadrick, Thomas Shadrick and Conner Sigmon; sisters, Mary McMillan and husband, Richard of Sanford, Octavia Baynes of Reidsville, Shirley Griffin and husband, Herbert of Reidsville and numerous nieces and nephews.
