Ruffin - Edward Lee "Ted" French, 78, of 1861 Oregon Hill Road, passed away Sunday, March 29, 2009 at his home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles R. Blackwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Ted was born in Rockingham County to the late Edward Whitman and Minnie Irving French. He was employed with the Rockingham County Sherriff's Department for over 15 years and was a retired farmer and of the Baptist faith. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Marvin Douglas French and son-in-law, Rex Durham. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Hazel P. French; daughters, Janet F. Durham and Denise French; grandchildren, Paige Leigh McAlister and Macayla Dickerson; brothers, Elmer French and wife, Pat; sister, Barbara Blackwell and husband, Raymond; sister-in-law, Ann French; many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 31, at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6-8:00 PM and other times at the home of his daughter, Janet Durham, 2220 Estes Road, Ruffin.
