Ruffin–Elbert “Red” Spangler, 88, of 1411 Perkinson Road, died on Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at Moses Cone Hospital.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 16, 2015, at 10:00 AM at Happy Home Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Bruce McBride officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends at 1411 Perkinson Road.
Red was born in Guilford County to the late Isaac Hugh and Mary Matilda Knowles Spangler. He was with the department of defense for 33 years after serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a member of Happy Home Congregational Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Sanford, Robert, Isaac and Calvin Spangler; one sister, Evelyn Clark.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Evans Spangler; son, Tony Spangler; daughter, Bonnie Spangler Buckley and husband, Craig; grandsons, Garret and Grayson Buckley and numerous nieces and nephews.
