Elbert Monroe Suthard Jr., 91, of VFW Road, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, December 7, 2018.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Wilkerson Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, December 12, 2018.
Elbert was born in Catawba County to the late Elbert Monroe Suthard Sr. and Lela Dunlap Suthard. He was a WWII veteran serving with the Merchant Marines in two theaters of war. He was a pilot in the civil air patrol, a crop duster and retired from American Tobacco Company after 50 years of service. Mr. Suthard was an avid outdoorsman often taking trips to Montana and Wyoming to hunt big game. He had a passion for trains and railroads since he was a boy. Most of all he loved his family. They will miss him greatly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Elizabeth “Sissy” Gordon.
He is survived by his children, Jerry Suthard and wife Marian and Louise Suthard; grandchildren, Kevin Suthard and wife Laurie, Autumn Brown and husband Brandon; great grandchildren, Riley, Taylor, Gracyn and Jackson.
