Reidsville: Ellen Williams Watkins, 69, 1472 Sherwood Drive, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County surrounded by her loving family. There will be a gathering of family and friends to celebrate her life on Sunday, April 28, 2013 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 2:00 – 5:00 PM and a special time of sharing memories and celebration at 3:30 PM. Rev. Sandra Wright will facilitate this special time with family and friends. Ellen was a native of Albuquerque, NM. Her courageous fight with cancer has been an inspiration and comfort to her family, friends and especially to many others fighting the same battle. The last few months of her journey have been an amazing picture of her humor and positive approach to the most difficult days of her life. She was a faithful member of Woolwine United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Dan River Emmaus Group and the Wentworth Presbyterian Friendship Group. A wonderful and gifted artist, her favorite mediums were watercolors and china painting. She was a member of the Studio Group of Rockingham County for over 40 years, and past president of the Fine Arts Festival of Rockingham County. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lois Williams. She is survived by her husband, Darrell Ray Watkins of the home; her sons, Mark Turner and Roger Turner and wife, Tammy; her daughters, Alison Turner and Carol Turner; her grandchildren, Sean Hall, Dylan Hall, Brandon Campbell, John Councilman, Kasey Turner, Sydney Turner and Seth Turner; her great grandchildren, Tanner, Tyler and Denali Campbell; her father, Metrah Williams and step mother, Roni; her brothers, M. Warren Williams, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Robert W. Williams; her sister, Kathleen Sharp and husband, Dave; her step daughters, Wendy Watkins, Jennifer Watkins and Jessica Ibrahim; and several nieces and nephews. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Rockingham Community College Foundation, Ellen Watkins Scholarship/Loan Fund, P.O. Box 38, Wentworth, NC 27373 or Woolwine United Methodist Church, PO Box 74, Woolwine, VA 24185.
