Elmer Forrest Carroll

Elmer Forrest Carroll, 93, of Reidsville, was ushered into the presence of Jesus on Friday, October 11, 2024. He was born on August 9, 1931, to the late Roy and Gracie Gammon Carroll. He was preceded in death by his brother, Curtis Carroll, and his sisters, Theo Parker, Doris Wilson, Inez Kirks, Virginia Verbrugge, and Ethel McAlister.

Forrest proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 – 1955, during which time he was part of the Seventh Army Corps of Engineers, while stationed in Kassell, Germany. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, camping, playing Rook with family and friends – especially when he was winning – and growing award-winning roses that he proudly shared with many through the years. He was an avid sports fan, always loyal to his Washington Redskins and Atlanta Braves. He was a faithful member of Mt. Carmel Church for many years, in which time he served in a variety of roles, including usher, communion steward, pitcher for men’s softball, coach for women’s softball, and legendary stew dipper. He was known for his kind and gentle spirit, his quiet humility, and his loving, patient heart.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 73 years, Evelyn, son Keith Carroll (Cindy), daughter Pam Carroll, grandchildren Melissa Ray (Kevin) and Meredith Mastromauro (Mike), two great-grandsons Chasen Ray and Nolan Ray, one sister Alice Haggerty (Graham) of Ontario Canada, brother-in-law Wayne McAlister, sister-in-law Carolyn Witty, many cherished nieces and nephews, and best buddy James Ellington and family.

A homegoing celebration will be held at Mt. Carmel Global Methodist Church on Saturday, October 19, at 2:00 p.m., with family visitation from 12:30-1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Carmel Global Church (361 Mt. Carmel Church Rd. Reidsville, NC 27320).
