Elsie Evelyn Dickerson

Ruffin – Elsie Evelyn Dickerson, 85, of Ruffin, NC passed away on April 7, 2014 at Morehead Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 9th at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Dan River Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. She was born in Rockingham County to the late John Pruitt and the late Mary Ellen Gammon Pruitt. Evelyn was a member of Sheldon Baptist Church and retired from Fieldcrest Mills and Dan River Mills where she was a supervisor and a weaver. She was a loving mother, wife, and grandmother. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother John Pruitt, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, James Elmer Dickerson ; son, Jeffrey Dickerson of the home; daughter, Alma Gwyn Barrett and husband, Jerry of Ruffin; grandchildren Michell (John) and Todd (Tiffany) of Ruffin; step grandchildren Ginny (Ted) of Reidsville and Matthew (Megan) of Ruffin; and 10 great grandchildren. Evelyn loved to go on vacations and travel with her husband, Elmer. She held many positions at Sheldon Baptist Church including being the church secretary. She was an honorary volunteer at Lincoln Elementary School and loved all her grandchildren. Her favorite pastimes were to visit people and go to church with her great grandchildren to hear them sing. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times will be at the residence, 8214 NC Highway 700, Ruffin, NC.
