Elwood Penn Carter

Reidsville - Elwood Penn Carter, 90, of 2201 Woodland Drive passed away at Hospice of Rockingham County on Sunday, October 2, 2011. A funeral service will be held at 4:00PM, Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Scott officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow in the Midway United Methodist Church cemetery.Elwood was born in Reidsville, NC and was the son of the late Garrett and Martha Gibson Carter. He was retired from Lucent Technologies. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served in World War 2 in the South Pacific. Elwood was a long time and faithful member of Midway United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth McCollum Carter; and sister Elizabeth Carter Kincaid of Greensboro. Elwood was a beloved brother-in-law of Paul McCollum, Everett and India McCollum Stone, Howard and Nancy McCollum Moricle and Ruth Marion McCollum.
