McCoy Road, died Friday, July 4, 2008 at Avante
Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be held
2:00 PM Monday, July 7, 2008 at Fairview Baptist Church with Rev. Heath Lloyd
and Rev. Ralph Clayton Officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Coleman was born in Rockingham County to the late Robert “Bob” and
Martha “Mattie” Jones Coleman. He was a veteran in the US Army serving during
WWII. He was a longtime and faithful member of Fairview Baptist
Church where his parents
were charter members. He served as a former deacon and member of the choir. He
was a self-employed tobacco farmer and carpenter. He was the former commander
of the Midway-Monroeton VFW, a member of the American Legion and was a faithful
member of the Rockingham County Honor Guard. He always had a true love for
baseball, from playing in local community leagues, to watching the Atlanta
Braves on TV. He loved gardening, making and refinishing furniture. He was preceded
in death by five brothers, Tom, Earl, Paul, Turner and Bill Coleman; two
sisters, Anne Coleman and Helen Coleman Hanner.
Mr. Coleman is survived by his wife,
Helen O’Bryant Coleman of the home; Elwood Y. “Eddie” Coleman, Jr. & wife,
Bonnie; daughter, Pam Coleman; grandchildren Abby and Mitch Coleman; sister,
Mary Coleman Hoggard all of Reidsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Sunday,
July 6, 2008 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6-8:00 PM and other times at Pam’s
home (1531 McCoy Road).
