Reidsville – Erla Mae Baker, 81, of 183 Midway Rd., passed away Thursday, March 13th, 2014, at Annie Penn Hospital.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Midway United Methodist Church with Rev. Jonathan Marlowe officiating. Interment will follow in Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at Midway United Methodist Church from 1-2 PM and other times at the home.
Erla Mae Baker was born in Topeka, Kansas on February 14, 1933, to the late Ralph and Lela Lefler Owens. She was a member of Midway United Methodist Church. She graduated from Western Illinois University with a Master’s Degree in Special Education. She was a lifelong teacher who loved molding young minds. She taught at McNally Elementary and Lewistown Community Middle School in Lewistown, Illinois. Erla was an avid bird watcher. She also loved flowers, snowmen and shopping for shoes. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and the kindest soul you would ever meet.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Lewis Baker and a brother, Lee Owens.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue Williams and husband Keith of Reidsville; three grandchildren, Joy Spurlock and husband Brad of Trinity, Charles Williams and wife of Andrea of Oak Ridge and Christina Williams of Asheboro and six great grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Screens and Projectors Project at Midway United Methodist Church.
