Ernest William Shelton

Reidsville - Ernest William Shelton, 84, of 2725 Wentworth Street, died Thursday, May 14, 2009 at Moses Cone Hospital.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, May 17th at New Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Harold Venable and Mike Chrismon officiating. Interment will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery with Military rites performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Michael Shelton, Jamie Chrismon, Eddie Compton, Wayne Johnson, Keith Hodges, Raymond Watkins and Honorary Pallbearers; Isaac Chrismon, Aza Armstrong, Willie Fulp and Curtis Carroll.Mr. Shelton was born in Martinsville, Virginia to the late Lemmie Edward and Agnes Clark Shelton. He was a retired carpenter and a member of New Heights Baptist Church. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Roy Lester Shelton and Lewis David Shelton.Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Margaret Priddy Shelton of the home; children, Roger Shelton and wife, Barbara, Michael Shelton and Lisa Chrismon and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Jamie, Katie, Isaac and Grace; brother, Ralph Shelton and wife, Shirley; sisters, Ruby Griffin, Ila McKee all of Reidsville and Alice Goins of Madison; numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, from 6:30 - 8:30 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the residence.
