Ethel Laura Carroll McAlister

Reidsville-Ethel Laura McAlister, 72, of 7113 US 29 Business, died on Thursday, October 20, 2011.Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, October 22, 2011 at Greenwood Presbyterian Church with Dr. Keith Carroll and Pastor Wayne Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, located at 361 Mt. Carmel Church Road, Reidsville.Mrs. McAlister was born in Ruffin, North Carolina to the late William Roy Carroll and Gracie Gammon Carroll. She was a faithful member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church for over fifty years and a member of the choir. She enjoyed spending time with her family and loved them dearly. Ethel enjoyed reading and watching birds and butterflies. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters, Theo Parker and Doris Wilson.Survivors include husband of 54 years, Roy Wayne McAlister of the home; children, Danny McAlister of Reidsville, Wanda M. Shive and husband, Jason of Cary, NC, and Sandra M. Sheckells and husband, Ron of Mebane, NC; grandchildren, Curtis McAlister, Chris McAlister, Eric Ellington, and Jay Shive; brothers, Curtis Carroll and Forrest Carroll and wife, Evelyn, all of Reidsville; sisters, Inez Kirks of Williamsburg, VA, Alice Haggerty and husband, Graham, of London, Ontario, Canada, Virginia Verbrugge and husband, Chan, of Tilsonburg, Ontario, Canada; numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Friday, October 21, 2011 from 6-8 PM and at other times the family will be at the residence.Memorial contributions may be made to Greenwood Presbyterian Church, 618 Narrow Gauge Road, Reidsville, NC 27320.
