Reidsville: Eugene “Gene” Wallace Hundley, 89, of 6119 NC Hwy 700, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2013 at the Hospice Home of Rockingham County. Funeral services will be held 3:00 PM, Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Happy Home Congregational Christian Church with Rev. Bruce McBride and Rev. Brian Cochran officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 3:00 PM Wednesday prior to the funeral and other times at the home. The burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites. Gene was born March 12, 1924 and was the son of the late, Samuel and Lula DeHart Hundley. He graduated from Ruffin High School in 1942 and later served as a medic in the US Army during WWII. He was a retiree of the American Tobacco Company with 32 years of service. He was a skilled craftsman and could design and make anything. He was a longtime and faithful member of Happy Home Congregational Christian Church where he served as an usher. Gene loved the outdoors, camping and traveling around the country with his wife, Lucille, and he especially enjoyed raising Angus beef cattle. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his former wives, Nellie Duncan Hundley and Louise Garrison Hundley; his brother, Dillard Hundley; and sister-in-law, Pearl Hundley. He is survived by his wife, Lucille Hopkins Hundley of the home; stepdaughters, Brenda Ellington and husband, John Dale, and Dottie Garrison; stepsons, Charles Garrison and wife, Cindy, and Wayne Garrison; 8 step grandchildren and 1 step great grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
