Reidsville: Eva Giles Oakley, 95, former resident of 496 Harrison Crossroad Loop, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2015.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 29, 2015, at Woodmont United Methodist Church with Rev. Morris Brown officiating. The burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery. The family will see friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the church.
Eva was born in Pittsylvania County, Va. to the late George Wilson Giles and Lillie Easley Giles. She moved to Reidsville in 1939 from Chatham, Va. She retired from The American Tobacco Company where she worked as a factory clerk. She was a member of the Eastern Star, past worthy Matron, District Deputy Grand Matron, past member of Order of the Ameranth, past Royal Matron, Grand Lecturer, past member of White Shrine, taught Sunday school for many years at Congregational Christian Church and was a member of Woodmont United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Oakley; brothers, Elwyn Giles, Kenneth Giles, Haynesworth Giles, Ernest Giles and Leslie Giles; sisters, Sybil Giles, Virginia Hazeldon, Dorothy Booth, Irene Somers, Margaret Dalton, Pearl Cowan and Edith Massey.
Survivors include her daughter, Cheryl Dare Oakley of Greensboro; sister-in-law, Bea Cates of Reidsville; special niece, Gerri Lawrence of Greensboro and many other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank long-time friend, Mason Langston, for all the help he provided through the years. They would also like to thank the residents and staff of WhiteStone Retirement Community for all their tender love and care.
