Evelyn Childress Durham

Reidsville: Evelyn Childress Durham, 86, passed away on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at Brian Center of Yanceyville. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Reidlawn Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. Mrs. Durham was born on December 1, 1924 to the late Letcher E. and Lottie New Childress. She was a loving mother and grandmother that loved her family dearly. Evelyn was of the Presbyterian faith and a member of Greenwood Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the Antique Engine Club and the Oregon Hill Fire Dept Ladies Auxiliary. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband of over 60 years, Henry Calvin Durham; daughter, Susan Durham; and several brothers and sisters. Evelyn is survived by her son, Jerry Durham and wife, Debbie of Reidsville; grandchildren, Seth and Grace Durham both of Reidsville; brother, Luke “J.R.” Childress of Reidsville; special brothers-in-law, Robert Durham and wife, Grace Ann, David Durham, sister-in-law, Sara Durham and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive family and friends following the graveside service and other times at the home of the son, Jerry Durham, 184 Greenwood Drive, Reidsville. The family request that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Evelyn Durham’s honor to Greenwood Presbyterian Church, 618 Narrow Gauge Road, Reidsville, North Carolina, 27320.
