Evelyn Morton Podboreski, 91, passed away early Tuesday morning, May 30, 2017 at Penn Nursing Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, June 2, 2017 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Mr. Shannon Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Visitation for family and friends will be one-hour prior to the service at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 1:00 – 2:00 PM.
Evelyn was born October 17, 1925 in Hugo, Oklahoma to the late Mitchell Morton and Pearl Neitch Morton. Over the years, she worked as a telephone operator, waitress, in retail, and eventually retired as an inspector for Macfield. She dearly loved her family and delighted in cooking delicious meals for them which included her famous dressing at Thanksgiving. She enjoyed listening and dancing to all types of music, but polkas remained her favorite. Sitting on her screened porch watching birds and butterflies brought her great comfort. She was always ready to dress in her stylish outfits and cruise or take a trip to the beach. Pinochle, Canasta, Chinese Checkers and reading People magazines were favorite pastimes.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, John Podboreski and her grandson, David Sechrest.
Evelyn is survived by her daughters, Linda Gibson of Raleigh, NC, Pat Sechrest and husband, Johnny of Reidsville, NC and Cindy Fox and husband, Jay Kyne also of Raleigh, NC; grandchild, Kelly Stone Revels and husband, Justin of Huntersville, NC;and great grandchildren: Greyson, Zachary, Jacob and Kamryn Revels.
The family would like to express their thanks to the wonderful nursing staff and doctors at Penn Nursing Center for their fine care and kindness shown to Mrs. Pod.
