Florence “Flo” Wariner Rogers died on Sunday, December 21, 2008 at Sardis Oaks Nursing Center in Charlotte. A native of Rockingham County, she was the daughter of the late William Henry Wariner and Narcissus Bradley Wariner and resided in the Wariner homeplace in Ruffin. She graduated from Peace Junior College in Raleigh and later earned a BS Degree from Greensboro College and a graduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Over the course of her career, she enjoyed teaching in a number of elementary schools in Northampton County, Rockingham County, and Caswell County and was an active member in the North Carolina Teachers Association and Delta Kappa Gamma Education Association. She was a devoted, lifetime member of the Ruffin Methodist Church and a keen member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the American Colonies, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, and North Carolina Museum of History. She loved flowers and was a charter member of the Down to Earth Garden Club. She was also an avid bridge player and a member of the Pennrose Park Country Club. She will be forever remembered for her zest for life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward Mangum Rogers, Sr. and is survived by her son, Edwards Mangum Rogers, Jr. and wife, Donna, of Mebane; daughter, Florence (Kandy) Rogers Smith and husband, Jim Smith,; grandsons, Bradley Smith and wife, Whitney, and Lyon Smith; granddaughter, Karmin Rogers Haston; and husband, Travis, great-grandson, Garrett Haston, all of Charlotte; and sisters, Sara Edmondson of Asheboro, and Janie Barbee of Greensboro. The family will receive visitors in the sanctuary of the Ruffin Methodist Church beginning at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2008. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Laura Wyant officiating. A graveside burial will follow at the Ruffin Community Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Ruffin Methodist Church, Rockingham Community College, or the donor’s preference. Wilkerson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
