FRANCES WALL BARKER Frances Wall Barker (Mrs. Robert Barker) passed away in her Charlotte home on Thursday, July 18, 2013 with her daughter , Betty Ruth and her son-in-law, Tommy by her side. A native of Reidsville, North Carolina, presently living in Charlotte, North Carolina she lived a selfless life from beginning to ending. Her ninety eight(98)years exemplified a life well lived in humility, kindness,and graciousness. A Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother, she was greatly loved by family and friends both in Reidsville and Charlotte, where she lived with family for over ten years. Born to Sally Comer Wall and William Anderson Wall on March 1, 1915. Her childhood was spent in Wentworth, NC in a family of seven brothers and sisters (Henry, Percy, Dewey, Harvey, Jess, “Buck”, and “Sunshine”). Married in Danville, Virginia to Robert Wheeler Barker, they lived in Reidsville while rearing their three children, Thomas, Peggy, and Betty Ruth. Frances was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wheeler Barker, her son The Reverend Thomas William Barker and daughter in law, Nancy Boyd Barker, great grandson, Joshua Barker and her parents and six Siblings. Homemaker and Mother, she devoted her life to her family. While holidays sometimes brought retail jobs and teacher substitute jobs, at age 75 she enjoyed helping her neighbors at their “Short Sugars Restaurant.” When living in Charlotte, she helped her family with their Camp for children, warming the hearts of campers with gentle smiles, handsewn gem bags, and a creative camp store. No job was too small for her caring participation. She was the oldest surviving member of the First Presbyterian Church serving in many capacities as teacher, women’s work and class president of the Earnest Worker’s Class. She is survived by her children, Peggy Barker of Reidsville, N.C. Betty Ruth Barker Wilkerson and her husband, Thomas Farrar Wilkerson; 12 grandchildren, Will Barker(wife, Mary), Dr. Robert Barker (wife Jessie), Major Benjamin Boyd Barker (wife, Nan), Joel Markham Barker (wife, Beth), Mark Wesley Barker, David Knox Barker(wife, Berdjette), Beth Barker(husband, Barron), Nan Barker Beck (husband, Steve), Alicia, Reuben, Corey, and Joy Barker and their Mother, Angie Barker. She is survived by 24 great grandchildren, Mary Beth Allen, Luke Barker, Aaron, Mattthew, Anna, Robert Barker, Drew, Stephen, Jacob Barker, Caitlin Foreman, Will, Thomas, Sam, Wesley Barker, Elizabeth, Joe, Jenny, Ruth Barker, Seth, Clayton, Isabella Barker, Nancy, Mary, Joseph Scarborough, Corrie and Kevin Beck. 9 great-great grandchildren, Emily, Abigal, Gabrielle, Titus Barker, Whalen, Garrett, Caroline Barker, Josie Foreman and Mikah Barker. All of these were the joys and blessings of her life, spending birthdays and Thanksgivings, often with forty to fifty of the family she loved. “Well done good and faithful servant”, Frances Wall Barker, now she has entered into the life-eternal planned for her. We shall miss her until we meet again. Service will be Sunday, July 21st, 5:00 pm at the First Presbyterian Church, Reidsville, followed by burial at Evergreen Memory Gardens. Family will receive friends at the Belmont House on Richardson Drive following the burial. Wilkerson Funeral Home in Reidsville is serving the family.
