Frances Cross Gammon

Ruffin-Frances Cross Gammon, 89, of NC Hwy 700, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 18, 2012 at Annie Penn Hospital.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 21, 2012 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Elder David Underwood and Cress Warner officiating. The burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery and the pallbearers will be her grandsons Ben, Brad and Anthony Gammon, George Vincent, Kevin French and Michael Wright. Mrs. Gammon was born in Reidsville and was the daughter of the late Howard Estes and Ione Blackwell Cross. She graduated from Reidsville High School and later married Drewey in 1947. They worked side by side on their farm in the Happy Home Community their entire life. She loved dancing, quilting, word puzzles and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Drewey Osvert Gammon; sister, Edith Cross; brothers, Spencer "Speck" Cross and Harold Cross. Survivors include her sons, Dale Gammon and wife, Peggy, Johnny Gammon and wife, Amy, and Jimmy Gammon and wife, Sheila; grandchildren, Casey Vincent and husband, George, Shannon French and husband, Kevin, Ben Gammon, Brad Gammon, Rebekah Wright and husband, Michael, Ashley Gammon and Anthony Gammon; great grandchildren, Abigail, Conner, Cyler and Charles; and special caregivers, Pennie Wilson and April Davis. The family will receive friends Friday, April 20 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 PM and other times at Johnny and Amy's home (7239 NC 700).In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
