G. Maury Slaughter

Reidsville: Greenhow Maury Slaughter, Jr., 72 of 1320 Pennrose Drive, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, August 12, 2016 at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM , Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Covington Wesleyan Church with Rev. Ralph Clayton officiating. Maury was born in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late Greenhow Maury Slaughter, Sr. and Mary Lee Cook Slaughter and is a veteran of the US Army. He was a funeral director with Wilkerson Funeral Home for the past 20 years serving many families at their most difficult times. He was a faithful servant at Covington Wesleyan Church where he sang in the choir, was a member of the Wesleyan Men and served in many other capacities with the church. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Linda Isom Slaughter; sons, Randy Poteat and wife, Amy, Jason Poteat and wife, Lori; daughter, Mary Lee Slaughter; sisters, Mary Lee White, Ann Read Strader and husband, Mike, Elizabeth Tait and husband, Dennis; grandchildren, Jason, Madison, Ethan, Ellie and Owen Poteat; sister-in-law, Pam Ray and friend, David; brother-in-law, Michael Hughes; many nieces and nephews, and will be greatly missed by the many friends he has made over the years. The family will receive friends at Covington Memorial Wesleyan Church on Saturday, August 13th from 6 – 8:00 PM and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Covington Wesleyan Church Food Distribution, 3218 Vance Street Ext., Reidsville, NC 27320.
