Reidsville – Garland “Bo” Sherwood Crumpton, 81, of 327 Richardson Road, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM on Thursday, January 10, 2013 at Mt. Herman Baptist Church with Rev. Grover Holder officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 - 3:00 PM prior to the funeral service and other times at his home. The burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Crumpton was a native of Caswell County and was the son of the late, Gilbert and Mamie Apple Crumpton. He retired from Fieldcrest Mills with over 39 years of service. During that time, he also served as a member of the National Guard for 10 years. He was a longtime and faithful member of Mt. Herman Baptist Church and was currently serving as a deacon. He was a volunteer of the Rockingham County Special Olympics and a member of the Rockingham County Naturalist Club for many years. He loved gardening, sawing wood and the great outdoors. After his retirement, his yard became his canvas and was recently recognized as a part of the Wentworth Garden Tour. His family was his passion, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many people will remember the annual family stew that was held at his home for over 50 years.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Mitchell Crumpton of the home; his children, Garland “Gary” Crumpton and wife, Tula of Meadows of Dan, VA, Sam Crumpton and wife, Deborah and Betty Scearce and husband, Ken all of Reidsville; grandchildren, Laura Gann and husband, Darren, Matthew Scearce and wife, Emily, Kristi Langley and husband, David, Emily Jones and husband, Jonathan, Charles Crumpton and Payne Crumpton; great grandchildren, Elijah Langley and Georgia Jones; sisters, Dena Gardner and Carolyn Talley both of Reidsville; brother, Gilbert “Gee” Crumpton and wife, Rachel of Eden; and numerous nieces and nephews.
