Gary Luther Myers, 71, went to be with the Lord on Monday, October 21, 2019, while fishing with his brother.
The family will receive friends from 4-6 P.M. at Wilkerson Funeral Home Friday, October 25, 2019.
Gary was born in Rockingham County to the late James Elbert Myers and Orene Hopkins Myers-Powell. He proudly served his country in the US Army as a Sergeant in the 101st Airborne Division, 2nd Battalion (air mobile) 501st infantry. Most of his time was spent as a machine gunner in A-Shau Valley, Vietnam receiving a Bronze Star.
He retired from Lorillard with over 30 years in the tobacco industry. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. He was most happy when he was in a quiet place with nature. Most of all he loved his family.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Louella Trahan Myers; children, Christine Myers Taylor (Ben) and James Elson Myers (Vicky); grandchildren, James Elson Myers Jr. and Ella Carlisle Taylor; brother, James Elbert Myers Jr. (Donna) as well as a number of loving nieces, nephews and great-nephews.
His body was donated to Wake Forest Baptist for medical research. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Arthritis Foundation at P.O. Box 96280, Washington, DC 20077.
