George Lewis Allen

Reidsville: George Lewis Allen, Jr., 77, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, December 6, 2015, at First Methodist Church of Reidsville with Rev Morris Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Greenview Cemetery in Reidsville. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 to 1:45 pm at First Methodist Mission at 1520 South Scales St., Reidsville, NC. George was born in Rockingham County to the late George Lewis Allen, Sr. and Margaret Trantham Allen. As a 1960 graduate of NC State in Electrical Engineering, he had a long career with AT&T. His lively sense of humor and faith in God led him to become an author, writing several books, including children’s stories and an NC State joke book. He was very active and willing to help people and gave his time to many charities. He was a man of deep faith and his family was very active in First Methodist Church and the Reidsville community. Along with his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Allen. Survivors include his son, Carl Allen of Winston-Salem; grandson Forrest Patrick Allen of Asheville; a loving companion, Tamara Mitchell; step-daughter, Kelly Vanderford and husband, Jon; and step-granddaughter, Lydia Vanderford. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the mission of First Methodist Church, 1520 South Scales St., Reidsville, NC 27320 or to your favorite charity.
