Ruffin - George Lindsay Evans, 88, of 2670 Worsham Mill Road, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011, at Morehead Nursing Center.Funeral services will held on Wednesday, October 19, 2011 at Happy Home Congregational Christian Church at 11:00 AM, with Rev. Bruce McBride officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard.Mr. Evans was born in Rockingham County to the late Tony G. Evans and Elizabeth Hughes Evans. He had worked for Dan River Mills and Fieldcrest Mills and was a farmer. He also was a member of Happy Home Congregational Christian Church and he served in the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Irene Evans Spangler and Mildred Evans Spangler.Mr. Evans is survived by his wife, Claudine Belcher Evans, daughters, Norma E. Pruitt and husband, P.D., Dale E. Aldridge and husband, Sammy, Cindy E. Finch and husband, Andy; grandchildren, Casey Pruitt, Daniel J. Aldridge, Elizabeth Aldridge and Abby Finch; step-grandson, Andy Aldridge; step-granddaughter, Millie A. Pruitt great granddaughter, Raegan Davis; brothers, Jack Evans, Bill Evans and wife, Jill, David Evans and wife, Mary; sisters, Margaret Boyter, Mary Spangler and husband, Elbert, Betty Ballinger, Nancy Saunders and Frances Smallwood, and caregiver, Alice Vernon.The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday, October 18, 2011 from 6 to 8 PM and other times at the residence.Memorial contributions may be made to Happy Home Congregational Christian Church, General Fund, 6941 NC 700, Ruffin, NC 27326 or Alzheimer's Association, Carolina Piedmont Chapter, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
