Ruffin– George Melvin Finney, 71, of 107 Megan Lane, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Annie Penn Hospital.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Burton Memorial Baptist Church with Michael Finney and Pastor James Hodges officiating. The burial will follow in Happy Home Congregational Christian Church Cemetery.Mr. Finney was born in Rockingham County to the late Fletcher Jackson and Elizabeth Grubbs Finney. He was employed with Southern Life Insurance Company and made Leaders Council every year. He was an avid sports enthusiast and especially enjoyed NASCAR. He always loved motorcycles and enjoyed riding them. Mr. Finney was always teaching and willing to give his advice to his family and friends. He came to know the Lord during his long battle with ALS – Lou Gehrig’s Disease. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Jean Eanes Finney and his brother, Dillard Finney. Mr. Finney is survived by his children, George Finney, Jr. and wife, Rhonda and their daughter, Megan; Michael Finney and his children, Mike, Matthew and Mie Jean Finney; Barbara Adams and husband, Steve and her children, Chase and Nikki Nappier and her step daughter, Jami Adams all of Rockingham County. He is also survived by his brother, Wayne Finney and wife, Joanne of Ruffin; his sisters, Shirley Curry and husband, Pete of Greensboro and Betsy Warren and husband, Johnny of Ruffin; sister-in-law, Betty Finney of Eden; extended family, Gina Griffin and husband, Billy of Eden and numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Finney’s caregiver and friend, Shirley Blanks. The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home, Monday, December 21 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and other times at his residence and 6898 NC Hwy 700.
