Summerfield – George E. Knowles, 76, of 15459 US 158, died on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the Rockingham County Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM on Tuesday, January 18, 2010 at Wilkerson Funeral Home, with Pastor Clay Spivey officiating. The burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens with Military graveside rites.Mr. Knowles was a native of Rockingham County, and was the son of the late Richard and Maggie Thacker Knowles. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Knowles was the great-great grandson of a confederate soldier. With over 20 years of service, he retired from Sylvania Corporation. Boating and spending time at the lake was his favorite pastime. He was of the Baptist faith. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. His great grandchildren were the apple of his eye. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Barham Knowles, his son, Eddie Knowles; his brother, James Knowles, his sister, Nettie Wilson Brown and four infant brothers and sisters.Mr. Knowles is survived by his wife, Peggy Brookbank Knowles of the home; his daughter, LuAnne Loye and husband, Gary of Reidsville; his son, Ricky Knowles, formerly of Reidsville; grandchildren, Brian Loye and wife, Stacey and Heather McFadden and husband, Mike; great grandchildren, Elijah Loye, Tyler, Maddox and Noah McFadden; sister, Connie Moore and husband, Don of Rural Hall, NC; step daughter, Patty McCormick of Summerfield; step grandsons, Patrick McCormick and wife, Julie, Tommy McCormick and wife, Susan and Ben McCormick; step great grandchildren, Madison, Savannah, Cody, Carter and Faith; and numerous nieces and nephews.The family will receive friends Monday, January 17 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 7:00 – 9:00 PM and other times at LuAnne and Gary’s home (126 Loye Drive).Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Rockingham County, PO Box 281, Wentworth, NC 27375.
