George Michael "Mike" Olivo

Reidsville – George Michael “Mike” Olivo, 70, of 502 Robinhood Road passed away Monday, September 21, 2015 at Moses Cone Hospital. Funeral services will be held 3:30 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2015 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Ron Tuck, Rev. Ronnie Warner and Rev. Gene McDuffie officiating. The burial will follow at Evergreen Memory Gardens. Mike was born in Randolph County and was the son of the late Joseph and Hazel Morgan Olivo. He was a longtime and faithful member of Community Baptist Church and currently attended Lawsonville Road Baptist Church. Mike wrestled in high school and was a 2 time state champion. His senior year, he was recognized as “Mr. Blue Comet” (the outstanding athlete in the school). After high school, Mike wrestled on scholarship at Appalachian State University. He had an exemplary coaching career serving at Asheboro High School and Reidsville High School producing several individual state champions. He retired from the Rockingham County School System after 30 years of service. He was currently serving as a referee for the NCHSAA. Mike is survived by his wife, Donna Sigmon Olivo of the home; his daughter, Tisha Olivo Owens and husband, Chuck; his son, James Michael Olivo; his grandchildren, Logan Charles Michael Owens, James Michael Anthony Olivo, Tristan Taylor Olivo, Elisabeth Marie Owens, Patrick Lee Olivo, Donna Kristine Owens and Matthew Thomas Olivo all of Reidsville; sister, Mary Jo Olivo Harville of Lakeland, FL; niece, Kristine Kelly Harville; a large extended family and many friends. Given his love of sports and dedication to teaching, the family will receive friends on Thursday afternoon, September 24, 2015 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
