George Thomas Stephens

Reidsville– George Thomas Stephens, Sr., 72, of 246 VFW Rd., passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on April 28, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Rev. Ralph Clayton officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Kevin Harrison, Tim Jones, Aaron Jones, Curt Denny, Bobby Chambers and Craig Dougherty. George was born in Rockingham County on September 23, 1940 to the late Isaac S. and Marshie S. Stephens. He was a Master Electrician employed in the trade for over 50 years and worked for Lynn Rai Electric in Greensboro for the past 20 years as Operations Manager. George was an avid golfer and especially enjoyed playing with his brothers, grandsons and son-in-laws. He also loved going on the annual family trip to the beach and fishing with his son. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Isaac Stephens, Jr., Marvin Stephens and Don Stephens; sister, Frances Huskey; brother-in-law, Wilbur Huskey and sisters-in-law, Temple Stephens and Shelby Stephens. Survivors include his loving wife, Jean Bradley Stephens of the home; his children, Cynthia Stephens Wooten and husband, Tracy, George T. Stephens, Jr. and wife, Sharon and Phyllis Stephens Dougherty and husband, Kevin; grandchildren, George T. (Trey) Stephens, III, Tyler R. Stephens, Seth T Dougherty, Cody P Wooten and Brittany Richards; brothers, John Stephens and wife, Katherine, Jim Stephens and special friend, Jean Lancaster, Wayne Stephens and wife, Orenda, Phillip Stephens and wife, Kathy, Doug Stephens and wife, Judy; sister-in-law, Mildred Stephens. The family will receive friends Monday, April 29, 2013 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the home. Special thanks to his niece, Lea Ann Brooks, sisters-in-law, Marie Marshall and Audrey Ratliffe, the staff on 4th floor West at Wesley Long Hospital and to friend and doctor, Peter Nishan.
