Georgia Short West

Reidsville –Georgia Short West, 95, passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at Carolina House of Reidsville. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday June 13, 2014 at Reidlawn Cemetery. At other times the family will be at the home. Mrs. West was born was born July 1, 1918 in Hurt, Va. to the late George W. and Lee M. Short and had lived in Reidsville all her adult life. She was a member of First Christian Church in Eden where she was active on the worship committee. Georgia was an active supporter and fund raiser to Camp Caroline, a Disciples of Christ educational and recreational facility in Oriental, NC. At Camp Caroline she established and funded the Robert (Bill) West Memorial Chapel. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert C. (Bill) West, who was a retired supervisor at The American Tobacco Company and a charter officer of the United Way Fund. She was also preceded by her daughter, Ann Ellington. Survivors include her nephew, Mike Short of Hurt, Va.; her special cousin, Dot Stone of Danville, Va. and her son-in-law, Franklin Cozart Ellington.
