Kernersville – Gerald Rodgers Meeks, 65, of 1520 Pine Land Drive, died Saturday, November 29, 2008 at his home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at Wilkerson Funeral Home. The interment will follow in Ridgeview Memorial Gardens. Gerald was born in Rockingham County. After graduating from high school, he served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. He loved traveling and actually lived abroad for several years after his military discharge. After returning to the states, Gerald graduated from UNC at Greensboro with a degree in Spanish. He was always learning and was a voracious reader. He loved everything about motorcycles, including restoring old classics, but he especially enjoyed long motorcycle road trips with his friends. Gerald was a faithful friend to many and his kindness exemplified a genuine concern for others. He was preceded in death by his father, Tyler Jackson Meeks. Gerald is survived by his sons, Craig Meeks of Kernersville and Phillip McCorkle and his wife, Summer of Oviedo, FL; Jackie Meeks of The Villages, FL; mother, Mary Land Meeks of Eden; sisters, Doris “Dot” Johnson and husband, Ed of Morehead City, Alma Vestal and husband, Neal of Eden, and Preston “Pep” Hopkins and husband, Norman of Eden; brother, Olin Meeks and wife, Hilda of Greensboro; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Tuesday. At other times, the family will be receiving friends at his mother’s home at 559 Bryant Street, Eden. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Winston-Salem, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
