Gertrude Idol Knight
Reidsville: Gertrude Idol Knight, 101, of 1757 South Scales Street, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Carolina House of Reidsville.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Beavers officiating. The burial will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Knight was a native of Guilford County living most of her life in Rockingham County and the daughter of the late Thomas and Lina Francis Idol. She was employed with the American Tobacco Company and later retired from Lorillard. A longtime and faithful member of Baptist Temple Church, she especially enjoyed the fellowship with the Mountain Climbers and attending worship. She met the love of her life on the dance floor and they danced together for 52 years in marriage. Her hobbies included traveling, crossword puzzles, painting, needle crafts, reading and music. She was a former president of the Red Hat’s Society of Reidsville. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Her quick wit and genteel sense of humor was a gift that came naturally, and will long be remembered by all who had the opportunity to get to know her. Along with her parents she was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Clarence, four brothers and four sisters.
She is survived by her children, Gary Knight and Suzie Heilman of Burleson, TX, Cheryl Knight-Greiter and husband, Michael of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and Jeanne Knight of the home; grandchildren, Christy Burke and husband, Dave, Kevin Knight, Alex Paschal and wife, Brittany, Blake Greiter and wife, Heather and Blair Greiter; great grandchildren, Rain, Sylar and Marcus Paschal and Lily and Brodie Greiter and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday, August 27 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at her home.
