Gilbert “Gee” Lee Crumpton, Jr.

Gilbert “Gee” Lee Crumpton, Jr. 83, of Reidsville passed away surrounded by his daughters and his wife on November 19, 2023.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Saunders and Pastor Ryan Burris officiating. Burial will follow at Apple-Nunn Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at the home. 

Gilbert was born in Rockingham County to the late Gilbert Lee and Mamie Crumpton, Sr., making the local paper because he weighed 16 pounds at birth. He was a hardworking man and tobacco farmer. He worked all his life and even continued farming until his passing. He instilled the same work ethic in his daughters as well. Growing up during the Great Depression taught him to not waste anything and how to be frugal with his money. Gilbert loved to fish, garden, and sell the produce that he grew. He was known in the community of “Folk Hill” for helping those in need with their plumbing and electrical emergencies. He retired from Rockingham County School System as the assistant maintenance director. 

In addition to his parents, Gilbert was preceded in death by brother Garland; sister Dena Gardner; and brother-in-laws Luke Gardner and David Talley.

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Rachel Crumpton; daughters Roxanne Hammack (Lester), Brenda Joyce (Kyle), Deanne Wiles (Steve); grandchildren Brettany Toney Brown (Heath), Sam Toney Chavanne (Elliot), Logan Hammack, Jesse Clifton; Tyler Wiles, Sadie Wiles; great-grandchildren Penny Brown, Nellie Brown and Maren Brown; step-grandson Emmitt Chavanne; step-daughter Sheila Hurst (Todd), step-son James Hodges, step-grandson Matthew Hurst; sister Carolyn Crumpton Talley; sister-in-law Joann Crumpton. 

Gilbert loved his family, cows and his black lab Molly. He will be greatly missed.
