Reidsville – Gladys Tickle Baynes, 89, of 6166 NC 65, went to be with her Lord on March 26, 2009 at Moses Cone. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethany United Methodist Church, 316 Witty Road, Summerfield, with Rev. James Raines officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Baynes was born in Rockingham County to the late John Arthur and Lottie Davis Tickle. She was a long time faithful member of Bethany United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served on the building committee that constructed the present church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, J. D. Baynes brothers, Clarence, Leonard, Johnny Tickle and sister, Edith Tickle Carter. Gladys was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved her family and the Lord. She was very talented in crafts and needlework and enjoyed entertaining with her storytelling and songs. Gladys leaves numerous friends to cherish her memory. She is survived by her son, Kenneth E. Baynes, Sr. and wife, Billie; daughter, Sybil Baynes Larimore and husband, Gene; grandchildren Kenneth E. Baynes, Jr. and wife Terri, Gregory B. Larimore and wife, Linda, Janet D. Larimore Shaw and husband Kevin and Kimberly B. Bowman and husband, Chad, 8 great grandchildren Daniel, Ashley, Holly, Justin, Jackson, Madelyn, Audrey, and Adelaide, sisters Audrey Bowman and Catherine Shelton. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at Wilkerson Funeral Home from to 6 to 8 PM and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bethany United Methodist Church.
