Summerfield –Glenn Ernest Owens, 80, of 1609 Brown Road, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 21, 2018, at Morehead Memorial Hospital. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at Evergreen Memory Gardens with Pastor Jaret McBryde officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Rockingham County Honor Guard. A visitation will be held Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at his home. Mr. Owens was a native of Rockingham County and the son of the late Glenn Martin and Mary Foley Owens. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict and was retired from Golden State Foods. He was a committed family man working two jobs, if necessary. He adored his grandchildren, often calling them “Sweet, sweet, sweet” and he affectionately called his friends, “Buddyro”. He collected antique guns and loved good Westerns, especially those featuring “The Duke”, John Wayne. Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Peggy Walker Owens. Mr. Owens is survived by his daughters, Tonya Owens Butler and husband, Philip, Tiffany Owens Huskey and husband, Chris all of Summerfield and Tatum Owens McBryde and husband, Jaret of Stokesdale; his grandchildren, Addison and Ainsley Butler, Stone and Glenn Huskey and Lochlyn McBryde. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to UNC Children’s Hospital, (UNC Feeding Team), PO Box 1050, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.
