Ruffin: Glenn Owen Hodges, Sr., 72, of 1628 Allison Road passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at Ruffin Stacey Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Roberts and Rev. George McDowell officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Glenn was born on May 29, 1939 to the late William Rufus and Bertha Mae Walker Hodges. He was of the Baptist faith, a member of Ruffin Stacey Baptist Church. He served in the National Guard as a Staff Sergeant. Glenn was talented and known as a hard worker who enjoyed helping those in the community, his neighbors, friends and relatives. He was a man of few words and very soft spoken. Glenn loved spending time on his farm and taking care of his catfish pond. He had a deep love for his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, George William Hodges, Earl Wilson Hodges and Lee Winstead “Shorty” Hodges; sister, Annie Mae Wood. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Bernice Hodges of the home; sons, Glenn Owen Hodges, Jr. and wife, Jennifer, and Gregory Todd Hodges and fiancée, Kristen Ratliff all of Ruffin; daughter, Amanda Shewmake and husband, Kendell of Littleton, CO; grandchildren, Christopher and Danielle Shewmake, Cole, Logan, Adam, Sam, and Jeremy Hodges; special grandchildren, Tanner and Luke Ratliff, brother, Walker Hodges and wife, Carol of Newland; sister, Linda Green and husband, Jerry of Danville, VA and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Friday, July 1, 2011 at Ruffin Stacey Baptist Church and other times at the home. The family request that memorial contributions be made to Ruffin Stacey Baptist Church Scholarship Fund, 261 Estes Road, Ruffin NC, 27326. Wilkerson Funeral Home is serving the family.
