Reidsville: Gloria Thornton Hill, 69, beloved Wife, Mother and Nanny, of Reidsville, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday February 15, 2016 at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital in Reidsville, NC after a short but courageously fought battle with cancer. Funeral services will be Saturday February 20, 2016 at 2:00 P.M. at Freedom Baptist Church in Reidsville, NC conducted by Pastor Ronnie Warner. Burial will be at Lakeview Memorial Park in Greensboro, NC. She was born November 3, 1946 in Jacksonville Fl. The youngest child of Roy and Louise Thornton, she was a graduate of Guilford College where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. She was a devoted employee of Syngenta in Greensboro, NC from where she retired in 2014 after 40 years of dedicated service. Gloria always spoke very fondly of her travels to Germany with her husband during his stint in the US Army. Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Louise Thornton, her father in law Plummer Thurman Hill Sr., her mother in law Maybelle Agnes Hill, her grandson William Alfred Hill III “Trey”, her brother Lawrence Thornton, her brothers in law Buddy Chance and Plummer T. Hill Jr., her sister in law Louise Hill and nephew Randy Thornton. She was a faithful member of Freedom Baptist Church and loved her church family. Gloria loved going shopping with her granddaughters especially on Black Friday. Affectionately known as Nanny by all who loved her, she made sure everyone felt like a part of the family while in her presence. She loved going camping with her family, and taking pop up trips with her husband Bill to the Blue Ridge Mountains or the Beaches on the Carolina Coast. Gloria was an amazing cook and her week was never complete until all of her family came to her house for a huge Sunday supper. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, making sure the little ones always had a surprise when they would come over. Gloria had two very special family members she especially loved, her fur babies Chloe and Charlie Brown. Gloria married the love of her life, William Alfred Hill Sr., on September 3rd 1965, loving him for the next 50 years. She is survived by her devoted husband William; two loving sons, William “Billy” Hill Jr. and wife Terri, and Darin Hill; three beloved grandchildren, Heather Brown and husband Hunter, William Schwartz and wife Katie, and Madison Hill; four precious great-grandchildren Levi, Tanner, Adalynn, and Autumn; one loving sister Vivian Taylor and Husband Melvin; one loving brother Roy Thornton and wife Judy; one very special sister in law Delores Chance; three loving step grandchildren Ashley Williams, Brittany McGehee and husband Justin, and Casey Parker; two precious step great-grandchildren Graceyln Williams and Brayden Thornton and a host of very beloved nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital for their great care and compassionate gestures during Gloria’s illness. A very special thank you to Nurse Traci for her loving and devoted care she displayed toward Gloria every time she would walk into her room. The family will receive friends from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. Friday February 19, 2016 at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the residence. Memorial contributions may be made to Freedom Baptist Church Building Fund, 471 Stone Rd., Reidsville, NC 27320, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
