Harold Kenneth Gentry

Mr. Harold Kenneth Gentry, 96, passed away quietly on Sunday morning, April 9, 2017 at his home. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Shannon Newsome and Dr. Marc Putnam officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery along with military honors. The family will receive friends one and a half hours prior to the service from 1:30 till 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Harold was born October 23, 1920 to the late Roy W. Gentry and Lottie DeGrotte Gentry. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He also served his community in many capacities including: being the former president of the Salvation Army and the Gideon ministry for Rockingham County; and a faithful member of the Reidsville Kiwanis Club. Harold served the Lord Jesus Christ in various ministries, including being the past Chairman of the Board at Reidsville Christian Church, as well as serving on the board for over 70 years, even as Chairman of the Elders and taught Sunday School for over 60 years. His passion included serving the Rockingham Council of Bible Education as a former chairman of the board. He also served in the United States Navy. Along with his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his wife, Edith Gentry; infant daughter, Judith Ann Gentry and infant son, Harold K. Gentry, Jr.; and three brothers. Survivors include his children: Cindy Putnam and husband, Ren of Reidsville; Terry Gentry and wife, Diane of Blowing Rock, NC; four grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.
