Harold Art Horton

Harold Art Horton, 72, of Hurdle Mills, went to his final home with the Lord on July 28, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

A celebration of his life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, August 1, 2021 at Wilkerson Funeral Home with Pastor Ethan Fisher officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at the home of Karen and Joseph Wheby, 8103 Rogers Court, Greensboro.

Harold was born in Person County to the late James Harold Horton and Nellie Crews Horton. He also had a son, the late Allen V. Ross. He worked in the tobacco market for many years as head bookkeeper and then became an estimator with Enpuricon, where he developed lifetime friendships with his colleagues. He had a real estate broker license, general contractor license and loved working on his farm, tractors, gardening and art. In his younger years he enjoyed racing cars. He was good at construction and building anything. He enjoyed his family and had a great sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Betty Johnson Horton; daughters, Gina Ross Morton, Karen Ross Wheby and husband, Joseph, Julie Ross Hall and husband, Raymond; grandchildren, Alexandra Grey Blackwell, Patrick Art Ross (like a son), Garrett Austin Hall, Hailey Elizabeth Hall and Joseph “Joey” Robert Wheby; sister, Joy Horton Hill and husband, Terry; special friend, Lindsay Devers; nephew, Jonathan Hill.
