Reidsville: Helen Cross Norman, 91, passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at Rockingham County Hospice Home.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 4, 2017, at 2:00 P.M., at Grace Fellowship Church, formerly First Congregational Church, with Dr. John Marks officiating. The family will see friends from 3-6 P.M., on Friday, March 3, 2017, at the home of her brother, Curtis Dickens, 102 E. Stonebury Ct.
Helen was born on December 28, 1925, in Rockingham County to Harry Jefferson Cross and Mable Talley Cross Dickens. She was a long time member of First Congregational Christian Church. She was a hairdresser for 54 years and owned her own beauty shop for 50 of those years. She also worked as the restaurant manager at the Holiday Inn and later was the evening front desk manager as it changed ownership several times. She retired after 32 years from the hotel business. She was a very loving mother, sister and grandmother.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her step father, Charlie T. Dickens, her husband J.R. Norman, Jr., her sister, JoAnn Wray and a granddaughter, Kassy Norman Royals.
Survivors include her children, John R. Norman III and wife Brenda and Denise “Dee” Biely and husband George; granddaughter, Anja Norman Shreve; great grandchildren, Cross Royals, Brandon Shreve and Justin Shreve and fiancé Morgan Patterson; great great grandson, Elliot Shreve; brother, Curtis Dickens and wife Sandra; brother-in-law, Wayne Wray; and numerous nieces and nephews.
