Reidsville: Helen “Moe” Price Hooper, 89, of Reidsville passed away Sunday, December 6, 2015 at the Rockingham County Hospice Home.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Doug McLeroy officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Wilkerson Funeral Home and other times at Pattie’s home (1809 Trentwood Circle).
Moe was born June 16, 1926 and was a longtime resident of Rockingham County. She was the daughter of the late John Paul and Helen Rankin Price. She graduated as Valedictorian at McLeansville High School and then graduated from Women’s College (UNCG). She was a longtime and faithful member of First Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder and many other committees over the years. She gave selflessly to her community by volunteering for many causes near and dear to her heart including The Salvation Army Board and the Board of Trustees at Annie Penn where she served as Chair and was later recognized with the Annie’s Spirit Award in 2011. She also served on the Rockingham Community College Board and the Department of Social Services Board of Rockingham County. While living in Milton, she served as City Council Woman and on the Board of The Thomas Day Museum. Moe was a truly remarkable woman and her legacy will be felt for generations to come.
Along with her parents, Moe was also preceded in death by her husband Phillip “Diddle” Hooper; her son, Phillip Hooper, Jr. and her sister, Mary Louise Price Boquist.
She is survived by her children, Pattie Hooper Phillips and husband, John of Reidsville and Paul M. Hooper and wife, Amy of Martinsville; grandchildren, Ben C. Barbee and wife, Elizabeth, Phillip H. Barbee, Rankin Hooper, Mary Miles Hooper and Lucy Hooper; great granddaughter, Hooper Matthews Barbee; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved niece, Jane Harrill.
