Helen Stone Moore, 94, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Morehead Nursing Center in Eden.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon, on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Moore was born in Rockingham County to the late James Robert and Mattie Dixon Stone. She graduated from East Carolina with a BA degree in 1944. She joined Mt. Carmel Church at an early age and moved her membership to Bethlehem United Methodist Church in 1952. In 1949 she was married to Thomas A. Moore, Jr. and asked by the minister to serve as treasurer for the circuit of five churches which she continued for many years until five became two. Over the years at one time or another, she served as a Sunday school teacher, president of United Methodist Women, a choir member, Pastor Parish Relations Committee member and trustee. Mrs. Moore retired from the Reidsville City Schools after forty years of service in 1986. She was an active member of the National Retired Teachers Association, Delta Kappa Gamma and Reidsville Women’s Club. She also served as a volunteer at Annie Penn Memorial Hospital for many years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by five brothers, Johnny Stone, Elwood Stone, P.W. “Pink” Stone, Henry Stone, Carl Stone, and two sisters, Annie Stone and Edna Walker.
She is survived by her son, Thomas A. Moore, III and wife, Wendy Agee Moore of Charlotte: granddaughter, Hannah Moore of Charlotte, and step-grandson, Daniel Fargis and wife, Katey and step great granddaughter, Hadleigh of Reidsville, and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday evening at Wilkerson Funeral Home.
